The Art and Design Department is a lively, forward-looking department which encourages girls to learn new skills and develop them to the highest level. Girls are stretched and challengedand the journey is motivational, fun and rewarding. Girls learn to give personal thoughts and feelings about visual meaning and acquire the skills to interpret messages, perspectives and contexts portrayed through a variety of different mediums. Through the broad range of creative disciplines available, we offer the opportunity for all girls to translate ideas into practical solutions and find success.
Classes are taught in specialist areas which provide opportunities for working in a variety of media, including clay, wood and metal, as well as facilities for computer-aided design and digital imaging. Activities range from traditional drawings, painting and printmaking to much more conceptual mixed- media work.
Our Artist in Residence and programme of workshops by visiting artists and designersoffer students the exciting opportunity of working alongside professional practising artists. The programme allows girls who are considering a career in Art and Design an insight into the everyday life of an artist and provides them with links to the wider art community.
